The opening ceremony of Lachin International Airport has taken place.
SİA informs that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended the ceremony.
Lachin International Airport, located in a complex mountainous terrain, is the third international airport built in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan. The foundation of the airport was laid in 2021 by President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.
A runway 3,000 meters long and 45 meters wide has been built at the airport, which allows the reception of any type of aircraft. The 5,578 square meter terminal building has the capacity to serve 200 people per hour. For the convenience of passengers, the terminal has a VIP lounge, cafeterias, medical service areas, office rooms, and a 150-space parking lot.
Located near the village of Gorchu in the Lachin district at an altitude of 1,738 meters above sea level, the airport has a total area of more than 131.3 hectares. This airport has gained the status of one of the highest mountainous airports in the post-Soviet space. With the commissioning of Lachin International Airport, the number of international airports in Azerbaijan reaches nine.
