AzerTelecom and Sparkle will cooperate in the framework of the Digital Silk Road project

Sparkle, Italy's first international service provider and one of the world's leading operators, and Azerbaijan's leading wholesale telecommunications operator AzerTelecom have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation within the Digital Silk Road project, which aims to create a digital telecommunications corridor connecting Azerbaijan and Europe.

The Digital Silk Road project, selected as one of the top five strategic infrastructure projects in Asia within the Global Strategic Infrastructure Leadership Forum in 2020, is being implemented by AzerTelecom at the initiative of NEQSOL Holding. The aim of the project is to develop information technologies and the digital ecosystem in Azerbaijan, as well as to turn the country into a digital center of the region.

As part of the document signed during the Capacity Middle East 2022 global telecommunications event, the parties will assess new business opportunities, explore the possibility of jointly creating and managing a new two-way transmission corridor between Central Asia and Europe, as well as agreeing to use Sparkle's existing backbone infrastructure from Turkey to Italy and all major European centers.

"The Digital Silk Road project opens new opportunities for regional cooperation in the field of telecommunications. The project allows creating a new digital route that will be the shortest between Europe and Asia. We believe that our cooperation with Sparkle, which is very interested in the new route, will be beneficial for our companies and will help accelerate digitalization in the region," said Fuad Allahverdiyev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AzerTelecom.

"In an industrial context where cooperation between operators is important, we are delighted to join AzerTelecom and the Digital Silk Road project on this new route between Europe and Asia, which not only improves performance while responding to the growing need for stability and security in global digital communications, but also diversifies existing routes." , - said Elisabetta Romano, CEO of Sparkle.
