The Institute of Information Technology under the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan held its latest scientific seminar to discuss the theoretical and research findings on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), SİA reports.
According to the institute, the event focused on the dissertation titled “Development of Methods and Algorithms for Ensuring Cybersecurity of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.”
Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and Director General of the institute, academician Rasim Aliguliyev, noted that the seminar was dedicated to reviewing the scientific and theoretical results obtained within the framework of this dissertation.
Doctoral researcher Orkhan Valikhanli presented a report outlining the relevance, objectives, and innovative aspects of his dissertation, as well as the outcomes of the scientific and practical studies conducted. He emphasized that the research aligns with the “Information Security and Cybersecurity Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2023-2027” and the “Artificial Intelligence Strategy for 2025-2028,” noting that the growing civilian and military use of UAVs further underscores the importance of the topic.
Valikhanli explained that the purpose of the dissertation is to develop intelligent methods and algorithms capable of detecting specific types of cyberattacks on UAVs with high precision, enabling rapid and self-learning responses while ensuring resilience against such threats.
The researcher detailed the analysis of UAV cybersecurity challenges, including their core components, functional missions, and classification, as well as a comprehensive examination of the main cybersecurity risks associated with these systems.
Following the presentation, participants engaged in discussions and exchanged views on the dissertation findings.
Academician Rasim Aliguliyev expressed his perspective on the results, emphasizing that ensuring the cybersecurity of UAVs, high-tech innovation products equipped with smart control systems and artificial intelligence (AI) used for observation, reconnaissance, and other strategic purposes, is one of the key priorities of modern times. He underlined the importance of thoroughly studying cybersecurity challenges in UAVs and noted that the research outcomes significantly contribute to strengthening their cyber resilience.
Aliguliyev also highlighted that the comments and suggestions voiced during the seminar would be valuable for further improving the dissertation and stressed the importance of considering every recommendation in the continuation of the research.
