German Interior Minister opposes establishing upper limit on admission of refugees

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser opposed setting an upper limit on refugee admissions.

SİA informs via TASS that the minister made a corresponding statement on the ARD TV channel.

"The upper limits are simply impossible to adhere to because we have European and international law," she said.

"We cannot limit the individual right to asylum on our own. We are bound by the Geneva Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and the European Convention on Human Rights, and in this regard we must devote ourselves to resolving these issues," Faeser said.

At the same time, she acknowledged that municipalities are at the limit of their capacity, so it is necessary to look for ways to solve the problem.

"The only thing that will really help is a European solution," the minister added.
