Shaki "Silk Road" XI International Music Festival wraps up

With the support of the Ministry of Culture, the joint organization of the Union of Composers and the Sheki City Executive Authority, the Sheki "Silk Road" XI International Music Festival, which started on July 7, has successfully ended. During the three-day festival, music lovers, guests of the city, and local residents watched the performances of well-known theater and music groups of Azerbaijan.

SIA reports with reference to AZERTAC that on the evening of July 9, a joyous closing ceremony of the festival took place in the Summer Theater of the "Marxal" complex. The event was attended by leaders of the city executive power, representatives of the organizing bodies of the festival, guests of the city, and music lovers. At the ceremony, the Azerbaijan State Chamber Orchestra named after Gara Garayev performed a wide concert program in front of the audience.

At the beginning of the concert, it was informed that the State Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1964 by the initiative of the classics of Azerbaijani music - Gara Garayev and Fikret Amirov. The first chief conductor and artistic director of the orchestra was Nazim Rzayev, People's Artist, laureate of State awards. During its more than 50 years of activity, the collective performed on many famous stages of the world, participated in prestigious international festivals, and promoted the musical culture of Azerbaijan. In 2007, the orchestra was awarded the "Humay" National Award for the widespread promotion of Azerbaijani classical music in the world. Since 2018, the artistic director and chief conductor of the Chamber Orchestra is People's Artist, President's laureate Fakhraddin Karimov.

Works of Azerbaijani, European and Russian composers were performed at the concert. Soloists - the performances of honored artists Inare Babayeva (soprano), Ramil Gasimov (tenor), international competition laureate Umida Abbasova (violin) were greeted with applause by the audience.

After the end of the concert program, the head of the Sheki City Executive Authority, Elkhan Usubov, made a speech and expressed his gratitude to all institutions that contributed to the holding of the 11th Sheki "Silk Road" International Music Festival, including the leaders of the Ministry of Culture and the Azerbaijan Composers' Union.

At the end, the artistic director of the Chamber Orchestra, Fakhreddin Karimova, was presented with a symbolic souvenir of the festival on behalf of the city executive authority.

The closing ceremony of the festival ended with fireworks.
