President of Azerbaijan informs UN official about Armenian vandalism
“Thank you for visiting the liberated territories. I know that you have been to Aghdam and seen the scale of the destruction with your own eyes. I can assure you that the situation is the same in all liberated territories. Everything has been destroyed; Aghdam does not exist because of vandalism and barbarism. The city, home to tens of thousands of people, is now in ruins,” President Ilham Aliyev said at a meeting with the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme Maimunah Mohd Sharif on March 5, SİA informs.
“This was committed by Armenians, the Armenian criminal regime, during the years of occupation. For almost thirty years, our cities, villages, historical and religious monuments have been deliberately and systematically destroyed to erase the traces of Azerbaijani culture and history. However, the war for the freedom of our lands has shown that sooner or later, justice prevails. You need to be patient. At the same time, it is necessary to be loyal to the country and to work every day to achieve the goal. Our war was a war of freedom. We put an end to an occupation. We have put an end to the evil forces in our land. You probably know that Armenians also desecrated and destroyed our religious monuments.
Sixty-five mosques were utterly destroyed, and the remaining two mosques were used to keep pigs and cows, insulting the feelings of Muslims around the world. Unfortunately, during all these years of occupation, the international community turned a blind eye to this. However, as you know, despite the decisions and resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council, the General Assembly and other important international organizations in support of our position, there was no serious pressure on Armenia. No sanctions were imposed on Armenia. Some countries have even tried to put the aggressor and the victim of the aggression on the same scale. These were some of the main reasons why the Armenians kept these territories under their control for a long time. If we did not show courage, patriotism and strength, this occupation would continue.
Because it seemed to us that the international organizations themselves had already adapted to the situation. As a strange group of tourists with meaningless negotiations, the Minsk Group visited us several times a year. Now it is clear that these talks were playing the role of a curtain hiding Armenia’s efforts to strengthen the consequences of the occupation. Armenians changed the names of our cities and villages. Armenians did their best to make the world forget the occupation. But the Azerbaijani people have not forgotten that. None of us forgot. We were all ready to sacrifice our lives for the liberation of our historical homeland, and it happened,” the head of state said.
