Outstanding Azerbaijani artist passes away

The outstanding Azerbaijani artist Tahir Salahov has passed away in Germany, according to the painter’s daughter, SİA informs referring to TASS.

People’s Artist of Azerbaijan and Russia, vice-president of the Russian Academy of Arts, full member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, laureate of the State Prize Tahir Salahov was born on November 29, 1928, in Baku.

Salahov was the chairman of the Union of Azerbaijan Artists, a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Republic. In 1973 he was elected first secretary of the Union of Artists of the USSR, and in 1997 he was elected vice-president of the Russian Academy of Arts.

A prominent place in the artist’s activity belongs to a series of works about the oil workers of Azerbaijan. Salahov’s works are presented in the biggest museums of Russia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and other states of the former USSR, and are kept in many museum and private collections around the world.
