On July 17-19, the Vaqif Poetry Days are being held in Azerbaijan's Shusha under the organization of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Culture told SİA.
The Ministry noted that on July 18, the opening of a poetry festival took place in front of the museum-mausoleum complex of Molla Panah Vagif.
The opening ceremony was attended by state and government representatives, renowned literature, science, and culture figures of the Republic, as well as residents of Shusha who returned to their native land in May of this year.
People's writer Chingiz Abdullayev, the first secretary of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union (AYB), expressed his pleasure in participating in such a grand event in Shusha.
During the artistic part, Honored Artists Azad Shukurov and Nazir Rustamov performed a poetic duet based on the creative works of Mohammad Fuzuli and Molla Panah Vagif.
Honored Artist Nigar Shabanova, soloists Abgul Mirzaliyev, Ilkin Dovlatov, and Leyla Rahimli performed the "Garabagh" composition, as well as the musical pieces "Şuşanın dağları" (The Mountains of Shusha) and "Bura vətəndir" (This is the Homeland). The concert program was met with applause.
At the end, commemorative photos were taken.
Note that on January 14, 1982, in Shusha, with the participation of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, a grand opening ceremony of the mausoleum of the great poet and statesman Molla Panah Vagif (1717–1797) and the Poetry House took place. It was during this event that Heydar Aliyev issued instructions for the organization of Vagif Poetry Days by supporting the initiative of Azerbaijan's literary figures. The holiday of literature and arts was first organized in July 1982.
With a history spanning 42 years, Vagif Poetry Days are now being held for the fourth time in liberated Shusha.
