Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov had a telephone conversation with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell, SİA informs, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
During the telephone conversation, the parties discussed the current situation in the region and the tension caused by the border provocations of Armenia against Azerbaijan.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov brought to Josep Borrell's attention that Armenia grossly violated its obligations and committed large-scale provocations. As a result of the intensive shelling of Azerbaijani positions, 50 Azerbaijani servicemen became martyrs. It was noted that these provocations are an integral part of the subversive activities carried out by Armenia throughout recent months. It was emphasized that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces took adequate measures in response to military provocations to protect the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
High Representative Josep Borrell expressed concern about tensions. He noted the importance of continuing negotiations between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia through the mediation of the head of the European Council Charles Michel. It was stated that EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar intends to visit the region on September 14.
The officials also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
