Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant stops its activity

Ukraine's Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant has completely stopped its operation, SIA refers to Ukrainian press.

It is noted that at 03:41 local time, power unit No. 6 of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Station was disconnected from the power grid. Preparations are being made to cool it down and bring it to a cold state.

Earlier, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (AEBA), Rafael Grossi, considered it possible to stop the operation of the only operating reactor at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZAES).

It was noted that the energy infrastructure feeding the city of Energodar was destroyed as a result of the firing of the distribution station at the IES. This caused a complete blackout at Energodar. The NPP operator, no longer confident that the plant's external power will be restored, is considering the option of shutting down the only operating reactor.

In this case, all ZAES will be completely dependent on emergency diesel generators, which will provide vital functions related to physical and nuclear safety of the plant, including cooling of power units. Under these conditions, AEBA considered that the plant operator would no longer be able to restart the reactors without fully restoring the external power supply.

Grossi has demanded an immediate cessation of all firing in the ZAES area.
