Peru sues Repsol for $4.5bn over oil spill

In January, a large oil spill in Lima, the capital of Peru, polluted the sea and turned the coastline black.

After this incident, the country's consumer rights protection agency Indecopi sued the Spanish energy company "Repsol", SIA cites foreign media.

Indecopi asked the company to pay $3 billion for environmental damage and $1.5 billion to people in the region. The leak is believed to have occurred on January 15 when the Italian tanker Mare Doricum was offloading at Repsol's La Pampilla refinery.
