Serious food shortages are expected next year, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in his appeal on the Independence Day of Ukraine, the US bureau of SİA informs.
The secretary-general said that many farmers around the world are already planning to reduce the area under crops.
Commenting on the Russian-Ukrainian war, Guterres noted that it revealed new vulnerabilities in a global system tired of conflicts, inequality, health problems, the post-pandemic economy and the climate crisis.
The accelerated rise in prices for food, fertilizers and fuel has led to a global crisis, and, as a result, a drop in the living standards of millions of people around the world, increased hunger and food shortages, the UN head emphasized.
