Sweden against full cessation of visa issuance to Russians

The Swedish government wants to see restrictions but not a complete halt in issuing visas to Russian citizens, Migration Minister Anders Ygeman said, SİA informs, citing the Swedish media.

"I think a full stop would be difficult and unsuccessful. On the other hand, a stringent restriction, for example, by abolishing the simplified visa procedure, is what we, Estonia, Finland, and others have been striving for in the EU," Ygeman said.

According to the minister, a complete cessation of the issuance of Russian visas could lead to mistakes.

"We want the sanctions to hit Russia's political and economic elite first. If you introduce a complete visa halt, it will mean that dissidents or researchers will not be able to come to the EU, and we may still need an exchange with Russia ", says Ygeman.
