The Swiss government shares its worry for coping with major power outages

Swiss law enforcement agencies must be prepared for "emergency scenarios" in the event of power outages this coming winter, as riots and robberies cannot be ruled out during blackouts. SIA reports that this opinion was expressed by the director general of the Swiss police Fredi Fessler in an interview published in "Blik" newspaper on Saturday.

"A power cut can have serious consequences," he said.

"Imagine: it's no longer possible to get money from an ATM, to pay with a card in a store, to fill up a car at a gas station. Then imagine that there could be an uprising."

Fessler said that he "doesn't expect it to actually happen," but that they "need to prepare for such extreme scenarios".
