Former Estonian PM considered to become new NATO Secretary General

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas is currently being considered the most optimal option to become new NATO Secretary General, SIA reports that a source in Brussels international institutions told TASS.

A few days ago there were claims that the former Prime Minister of Great Britain, Boris Johnson, could become the next Secretary General of NATO.

Currently, the Secretary General of NATO is Jens Stoltenberg. The Norwegian diplomat was appointed to this position in 2014.

In connection with Russia's large-scale war against Ukraine, the source noted that the real discussion regarding the new Secretary General "will not being until next year, considering the rapidly changing situation." The mandate of the current NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has been prolonged for the third time on March 24 until September 30, 2023.
