Russian passports handed out in Melitopol and Kherson

Russia continues to issue passports to those who want to become Russian citizens in the controlled regions, as the war with Ukraine intensifies.

With the signing of the decree by Russian President Vladimir Putin facilitating the granting of Russian citizenship to all Ukrainians, passports are issued to those who apply for Russian citizenship in the captured regions of Ukraine, SIA cites Russian websites.

The distribution of Russian passports began in the Ukrainian cities of Melitopol and Kherson On June 11.

According to the Russian media, more than 70,000 Ukrainians applied for Russian citizenship in the Zaporozhye region.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree in 2019 to enable residents of Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine to obtain Russian citizenship. From May 25, people living in Ukraine's Kherson and Zaporozhye regions were added to this. On July 11, Putin signed a decree to facilitate the acceptance of Ukrainian citizenship for citizens of all regions of Ukraine.
