European Union Bans Russian Gold Exports

The European Union appears to have approved bans on Russian gold exports and an asset freeze of the Russian state-owned SberBank as part of its latest round of sanctions against Russia in response to the war in Ukraine.

SIA reports that Joseph Borel, the High Representative of the European Union, wrote about this on his Twitter page.

"Today, we are taking another step to curtail Russia’s capacity to continue to finance its aggression against Ukraine. We are effectively banning Russia’s most significant export after energy – Russian gold. The EU is doing its part to ensure we can overcome the looming global food crisis" he stated.
