China National Space Administration, the state owned space corporation, may be planning a “takeover” of the Moon as part of its military space program.
NASA’s administrator Bill Nelson has told newspaper Bild, SIA cites APA.
During the interview Nelson affirmed that the United States was involved in the space race with Beijing.
"We should be worried that China will say 'this is ours and you stay away' at any given moment." He noted that China's space program is essentially "military" and that Chinese astronauts are "learning to destroy other countries' satellites".
Earlier, Beijing announced plans to send astronauts to the South Pole of the Moon by 2030.
A research station and a base are expected to be established there.
