Mass protest against military service reform in India

At least one person has been killed in clashes with police during mass protests against military reform in India.

According to information obtained by SIA from Russian websites, this information was provided by NDTV.

In addition, protesters set fire to at least 12 trains and disrupted another 300 routes.

Earlier, the Indian government announced plans for military reform. The reform plan called for the military to sign four-year contracts instead of long-term ones, after which 75 percent of servicemen would have to leave the army without receiving a military pension. The rest would be allowed to serve for 15 years.

These measures, according to Indian officials, would rejuvenate the country's armed forces, as well as save on benefits for retired soldiers.

But protesters say the reform is actually depriving potential servicemen of jobs with stable salaries and pensions.
