Russian FM: "Moscow comprehends Turkiye's decision to close airspace"

"Moscow comprehends Turkiye's decision to close airspace to Russian planes flying to Syria," Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a briefing.

"I would like to say that, in fact, Ankara has appealed to the Russian side not to use this route for more than a month. The reasons for these appeals were clear to us, and currently, Russia is not using this route. This issue is not new. It has existed for about a month," Zakharova said.

On April 23, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced that Turkiye had closed its airspace to Russian civilian and military aircraft flying to Syria.
