Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is convinced that Russia's immediate goal is to besiege and repatriate 44,000 Ukrainian soldiers in a large-scale battle for Donbass.
According to SIA, he said this in an interview with BBC News.
President Zelensky said that the east now represents the "most difficult situation" for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but that "our strongest units are concentrated here."
The Ukrainian leader stressed that Russia first of all wants to destroy the Donbas.
"During the 50 days of the full-scale attack of the Russian Federation, they showed that the main target for them is the Donbas. First of all, Russia wants to destroy the Donbas. In Luhansk and Donetsk, Russian troops seem to only want stones left in the areas they destroyed. And so that no one is left, "Zelensky said.
The head of state also said that Russia had forcibly recruited residents of the area to its army.
