Iran says US strikes violate preliminary peace memorandum

Iran's Foreign Ministry has accused the United States of committing a serious breach of a memorandum of understanding, saying recent US strikes undermine key provisions of a preliminary peace agreement between the two countries, SİA informs.

In a statement, the ministry said US forces carried out strikes on "several monitoring and surveillance centers" along Iran's southern coast.

"These aggressive attacks also constitute a blatant violation of Article 1 of the Memorandum of Understanding, which provides for the cessation of military operations," the statement said.

The ministry argued that the US actions had rendered parts of the preliminary peace agreement "ineffective."

The memorandum, signed remotely by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on June 17, provides for a 60-day negotiation period aimed at reaching a final and lasting peace agreement.
