Annalena Baerbock: WUF13 is taking place at a crucial time

Accessible, safe, and decent housing is a fundamental human right, stated the President of the 80th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock, during her video address at the opening ceremony of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, SİA informs.

She noted that more than 1.1 billion people in the world still live in informal settlements or slums.

"The consequences of this are not limited to safety issues alone. Without safe living conditions, health deteriorates, the education process is disrupted, and risks increase further. Inequality deepens, and communities become more vulnerable to climate shocks and crises."

She declared that WUF13 is being held at a crucial time:

"On one hand, the Forum brings the housing crisis into the spotlight, and on the other hand, it creates opportunities for implementing measures in the field of sustainable urban development. Holding this event further increases the responsibility we face. There is no simple solution to a crisis of this scale. The construction of more housing is essential," she emphasized.
