The Donald Trump has said Iran is losing around $500m a day as a result of restrictions imposed on its ports, intensifying pressure on Tehran amid ongoing tensions.
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Mr Trump stated that the blockade was significantly weakening Iran’s economy and would remain in place until an agreement is reached.
“Until a deal is made, the blockade will not be lifted,” he wrote, adding that the financial losses were “not sustainable even in the short term”.
The US president also accused some media outlets of spreading what he described as “anti-American fake news” and suggested they were seeking to portray Iran as gaining the upper hand.
Iran has not immediately responded to the remarks.
