The State Flag of Azerbaijan has been hoisted in New York City, USA, to mark November 8 – Victory Day, the 5th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s glorious victory in the Patriotic War, and November 9 – State Flag Day.
The State Committee on Work with Diaspora informed SİA of the event.
The tricolor flag was raised in Bowling Green park on Wall Street, a symbol of New York and its financial center, and one of the most visited streets by tourists. The site is recognized as New York City’s first official park and a prominent flag plaza.
Organized by the Azerbaijan New York Association, speakers at the ceremony highlighted the historical and moral significance of Victory Day, emphasizing the pride and joy the Azerbaijani people felt after nearly 30 years of longing for this triumph. It was noted that during the 44-day Patriotic War, the nation united as one fist behind a single goal. Under the leadership of Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Army, together with heroic martyrs and veterans, wrote history, and their selfless devotion to the Motherland will live forever in the nation’s memory.
The flag was then raised to the sounds of Azerbaijan’s National Anthem.
Local residents and tourists welcomed the ceremony with great interest, taking photos in front of the flag. Azerbaijani compatriots provided them with information about the country.
The State Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan will fly at Bowling Green for 10 days.
