Media: Azerbaijan seeks UN mandate to join peacekeeping mission in Gaza

The US has asked Azerbaijan to join the "Stability Force" in Gaza, SİA reports, citing "AnewZ".

According to the information, Baku has not yet made a final decision on this matter. Azerbaijan demands that any participation of the country in this mission should be within the framework of a UN Security Council resolution that provides international legitimacy and a clear mandate.

It is noted that this mission is not a classic UN peacekeeping operation. The mission is similar to the peacebuilding implemented after the Balkan conflicts. The goal is to protect key facilities, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, and prevent a recurrence of armed conflict until political structures are formed.

The US does not plan to send its own troops to Gaza, but instead, Washington intends to create a coalition of reliable regional and international partners. Azerbaijan is seen as a reliable partner that can contribute to this strategic peace initiative in terms of diplomatic balance and experience.

Note that some time ago, Politico reported that the main candidates to participate in a potential peacekeeping mission in the Gaza Strip are Indonesia, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan.
