Municipal elections are underway across Georgia, as voters cast ballots Saturday to select new local leadership, SİA reports.
Polls opened at 8:00 a.m. local time and are scheduled to remain open until 8:00 p.m., according to the country's Central Election Commission.
More than 3.5 million registered voters are eligible to participate in the elections, which will determine 2,058 members of 64 municipal councils and mayors in all 64 municipalities across the country.
A total of 3,061 polling stations have been set up nationwide. Of those, 2,284 are equipped for electronic voting, while 777 will operate using traditional paper ballots.
The vote is seen as a key test of Georgia’s democratic institutions and public trust in local governance, amid ongoing political tensions and the country’s continued aspirations for closer ties with Western institutions.
