North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has announced that the country will introduce a new military strategy focused on the simultaneous development of nuclear forces and conventional armed forces, SİA reports citing RBC-Ukraine.
According to the North Korean state news agency KCNA, Kim said the new policy will soon be presented and should become a key factor in strengthening the country’s defense capabilities and ensuring national security during a meeting of the leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
He emphasized that the nuclear arsenal will remain the central pillar of the country’s deterrence strategy, while ground, naval, and air forces must also enhance their combat readiness to respond to any potential threats.
Kim additionally tasked military leadership with preparing a detailed plan to modernize the army, including developing new weapons, improving personnel training, and refining the command system.
Analysts suggest that the statement may signal Pyongyang’s intent not only to maintain its nuclear shield but also to strengthen its conventional forces. The international community has traditionally criticized any expansion of North Korea’s nuclear program, and responses from the United States, South Korea, and Japan are expected following Kim’s announcement.
