A moderate earthquake struck near Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, on Thursday, shaking buildings and alarming residents, SİA reports, citing foreign sources.
The Seismology Institute of the National Academy of Sciences said the 4.5-magnitude quake occurred at 13:57 local time near the village of Beş Küngöy in Chuy district, just a kilometer from the epicenter. Residents in Bishkek, about 12 kilometers away, reported feeling the tremor, which occurred at a depth of 11 kilometers.
Social media users described the shaking as strong, though authorities from the Kyrgyz Ministry of Emergency Situations said response efforts are underway and no reports of casualties or structural damage have been confirmed.
