South Korea, the United States (US), and Japan are set to conduct large-scale joint military exercises in September under the name Freedom Edge, Yonhap said, citing South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, SİA reports.
“The three countries will enhance their comprehensive operational capabilities across maritime, air, and cyber domains, while strengthening interoperability to maintain robust and stable trilateral cooperation,” the statement said.
The drills are planned as part of ongoing efforts to deepen security collaboration in response to North Korea’s military threats. According to the plan, the exercises will take place from September 15-19 in international waters east and south of Jeju Island in South Korea. Yonhap noted that this marks the first trilateral drill since Donald Trump assumed the presidency.
