Summit of the "coalition of the determined". Guarantees from EuropePlot

European leaders who will take part in the meeting of the "coalition of the determined" under the chairmanship of France and Great Britain on Thursday in Paris will call US President Donald Trump after the discussion. The "coalition of the determined" will meet in France to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine. Security guarantees that should work after the end of hostilities, which are not even close to ending. "We, Europeans, are ready to provide guarantees to Ukraine on the day when peace is signed," says French President Emmanuel Macron. The Ukrainian president has already arrived in Paris.

Expectations from the summit

Macron said that the summit of the "resolute coalition" plans to formalize the agreements that were worked out during the meeting of the chiefs of staff in Washington.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte expressed the expectation that at the summit or soon after it it will be possible to receive clear answers regarding what security guarantees Europe can offer Kyiv.

"This means that we can interact even more intensively, including with the American side, to find out what they want to do in terms of their participation in security guarantees. So that we can collectively resolve this issue," he said.

He also assured that any resources allocated for security guarantees for Ukraine will not weaken the Western military alliance's defense against Russia on its eastern flank.

"We must prevent our resources from being overly dispersed, which means that we must always take into account the impact this will have on NATO's (defense) plans," Rutte emphasized.

They will call Trump

The European leaders who will take part in the meeting of the "coalition of the determined" chaired by France and the United Kingdom on Thursday in Paris will call the President of the United States Donald Trump after the end of the discussion.

"The President of the Republic will co-chair, together with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Mr Kier Starmer, a meeting of the "coalition of the determined" in a hybrid format on the morning of Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the Elysee Palace," the Chancellery of the President of France reported.

The meeting of the "coalition of the determined" will begin at 11:00 Kyiv time.

A joint call to Trump is scheduled for 15:00 Kyiv time.

The Elysee Palace, however, did not specify who exactly will take part in the call - all participants in the negotiations within the "coalition of the determined" or only the leaders who are physically in Paris.

A press conference with the participation of French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled for 16:00 Kyiv time.

"The heads of state and government will discuss the work on security guarantees for Ukraine carried out by the chiefs of the general staff in recent weeks and draw conclusions regarding the behavior of Russia, which continues to refuse peace," the office of the French president emphasized.

The meeting will also include European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President António Costa, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Other European leaders will join the summit via video link.
