North Korean delegation removes Kim Jong Un’s glass following Putin talk
The security service confiscated North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s glass following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing to eliminate any traces of the leader’s biological material, retired Federal Security Service (FSB) major Aleksandr Mikhailov told Moskovskij Komsomolets, SİA reports.
Mikhailov noted that the measure was taken to ensure the long-term safety of the North Korean leader. “The goal is to prevent hostile actors from collecting biological material that could be used against him,” he explained.
Earlier, media outlets reported that after the talks, North Korean specialists from the delegation carefully wiped the furniture coverings and seized the glass Kim had used.
Mikhaylov noted that such precautions are rooted in concerns that adversaries could exploit personal biological traces. He recalled that American laboratories had previously collected biomaterials from representatives of different ethnic groups to study their susceptibility to various influences.
In February 2019, journalists from The New York Times accused Chinese authorities of using biological material obtained from people, either voluntarily or by coercion, for espionage purposes.
