Around 14,000 migrants who had set out for the United States have since returned, a report published by the governments of Colombia, Panama, and Costa Rica with the support of the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights stated, SİA reports.
The report states that nearly all of the returnees are Venezuelans. They had fled to the US in search of refuge from Venezuela’s prolonged economic, social, and political crises, but many returned after encountering stricter immigration policies.
The data also shows that over half a million migrants crossed the perilous Darién Corridor along the Colombia–Panama border in 2023, marking a record high. While the flow eased somewhat in 2024, it has almost entirely come to a halt since the start of this year.
