The Joint Declaration signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia with the participation of the US President in Washington is assessed as an important step in the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan, the representative of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric told journalists, Report informs.
Over the weekend, a statement was issued that the secretary general welcomes the comprehensive Joint Declaration signed on Friday by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan with the participation of US President Donald Trump, the representative added.
The secretary general highly appreciated their commitment to continue dialogue and build trust, as well as Trump's efforts to achieve this progress, the representative said.
He reaffirmed the UN's strong support for all efforts to promote sustainable peace in the South Caucasus, the representative noted.
