EU member states are discussing the suspension of the visa-free regime with Georgia, EU Ambassador to Georgia Pavel Herchinsky told journalists, APA reports.
"Discussions are ongoing among member states on what can be done, and one of the ideas is to suspend the visa-free regime," Herchinsky said. He noted that relations between Georgia and the EU have not been going well in the past year.
"Georgia has had privileged relations with the EU for years. We have shared visa-free travel and a free trade zone with Georgians. Three years ago, Georgia applied for candidate country status, and we officially granted it the status of a candidate country to the EU. However, unfortunately, relations between the EU and Georgia have not been going well for about a year," Herchinsky said.
