An event entitled "Water Security and Climate Resilience: Addressing Environmental Challenges in CICA Member States" has been held in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, within Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and with the support of the CICA Secretariat, SİA informs referring to Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry.
The meeting was held within the High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation.
The event featured statements on behalf of Azerbaijan's chairmanship of CICA and COP29. They emphasized the importance of the environmental dimension in Azerbaijan's activities within the CICA, as well as the attention paid to environmental issues in the context of preparations for COP29. Information was also provided on Azerbaijan's contribution to water security and international cooperation at both the global and regional levels.
The participants discussed the impact of accelerated glacier melting due to climate change on water security, emphasized the need for climate adaptation and long-term sustainability. Particular attention was paid to the importance of joint action and cooperation in effective water resources management.
In addition, presentations were made on the challenges to water security caused by climate change in the CICA region, as well as on the impact of water management on food safety.
