Baku hosts discussion of Azerbaijan-Iran relations amid regional processes

The Center for the Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center) in Baku has hosted an event themed "Azerbaijan-Iran relations in the context of regional processes", Report informs.

The main purpose of the event was to assess the current state and future development of Azerbaijan-Iran relations amid the changing geopolitical configuration in the South Caucasus region.

Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Board of AIR Center, and Saeed Khatibzadeh, head of the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Foreign Minister, delivered opening speeches during the event.

In his speech, Farid Shafiyev highlighted the official visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Azerbaijan as a sign of the positive dynamics observed in the relations between the two countries. He stated that the visit was an important turning point in terms of restoring strategic dialogue, strengthening trust, and expanding practical cooperation formats.

Saeed Khatibzadeh, in his speech, noted that Azerbaijan holds an important place in Iran's neighborhood policy and stated that President Masoud Pezeshkian's visit to Azerbaijan was a practical manifestation of this policy. He also underscored the close relations between the two peoples:

"Artificial barriers should be removed, and natural connections should be maximized. The geopolitical and geoeconomic changes taking place in the region require that approaches be adapted to these trends."

In the subsequent expert discussions, presentations were made by Javid Valiyev, member of the AIR Center Board, Alibeman Eghbali Zarch, head of the Eurasian Research Group at the IPIS, Masiagha Mahammadi, chief consultant of AIR Center and Manuchehr Moradi, senior researcher at the IPIS on bilateral relations against the background of new realities in the region, the results of the Iranian President's visit to Azerbaijan, regional energy and transport projects, security and border management, as well as cultural and humanitarian cooperation issues.

The speakers emphasized that President Masoud Pezeshkian's visit opened a new page in bilateral relations and created a foundation for continuous dialogue in the next stage.
