The Permanent Forum, established by the UN General Assembly resolution of August 2, 2021, carries out activities aimed at eliminating the injustices caused by slavery and colonialism.

Thanks to the cooperation between the Permanent Forum and the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), which fights colonialism within the international law and exposes its harmful consequences in the international arena, participation in the session was ensured by representatives of the territories under the colonial rule of France and the Netherlands: Guadeloupe, Martinique, Kanaky (New Caledonia), Sint Maarten, Réunion, Bonaire, Aruba, Maohi Nui (French Polynesia), French Guiana.

Speaking at the event, BIG Executive Director Abbas Abbasov spoke in detail about the activities of his organization in the field of decolonization.

He noted with regret that the territories under the control of France and the Netherlands continue to suffer from the colonial regime to this day.

Abbasov said that in order to discuss in more detail the problems faced by the aforementioned territories, BIG, with the support of the Permanent Forum, is organizing a conference on April 15 entitled "Decolonization: The Quiet Revolution" and invited the participating states to take part in it.

Representatives of Guadeloupe, Sint Maarten, Reunion, Martinique and French Guiana, who participated in the session through BIG, in their speeches condemned the colonial policies of France and the Netherlands, emphasizing the need to combine efforts to achieve the independence of their countries as soon as possible.

Also during the event, the session participants were presented with a report entitled “The Evolution of French Colonialism: A Political and Constitutional Study,” prepared at the request of the BIG by the recognized UN expert, US citizen Carlyle Corbin.
