UN: Gaza faces critical food situation

The UN World Food Program has warned that the food supply situation in the Gaza Strip is critical due to Israel's ongoing blockade of humanitarian supplies, SİA informs.

"No food has entered Gaza since March 2, as all border crossings remain closed for both humanitarian and commercial supplies. Commercial food prices are surging, with some staples increasing over 200%. WFP urges all parties to prioritize civilian needs and allow aid into Gaza," the UN World Food Program wrote on X.

Israel's suspension of goods entering Gaza is taking a toll on the Palestinian enclave, with some bakeries closing and food prices rising, while a cut in the electricity supply could deprive people of clean water, Palestinian officials said.

The suspension, which Israel said was aimed at pressuring militant group Hamas in ceasefire talks, applies to food, medicine and fuel imports.
