Kazakhstan is demanding an audit of funds allocated by foreign sponsors, particularly USAID, SİA informs, citing Kazakhstani media outlets.
During a parliamentary session, Maharram Maharramov, a member of the People's Party of Kazakhstan faction, revealed that new alarming details are emerging amidst scandals and rumors surrounding USAID.
He pointed out that an official White House statement claims that USAID has been financing harmful projects for decades. Given these assertions, it is crucial to determine what other "beneficial" goals billions of dollars have been directed to in Central Asia.
"As for our region, from 2022 to 2025, USAID has allocated $2 million to strengthen human rights and equality in Central Asia. This program is implemented by the European Region of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex Association (ILGA-Europe). This organization carries out the US government's assistance programs in Kazakhstan," Maharramov stated. He mentioned that he had sent a corresponding request to the Ministries of Justice and National Economy.
The MP highlighted the importance of investigating where the funds go and who receives them. He highlighted that the periodic "activities" of some groups under the slogan "rights of sexual minorities" often occur not due to the internal needs of society, but due to external influence, including financial support from abroad.
Maharramov stressed that the Ministry of Justice and the government must ensure the protection and safety of Kazakh children from such harmful "sponsor" projects.
