Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said that the US-imposed duties on Mexican goods will have a serious negative impact on the US economy, SİA informs.
"The 25% tariffs imposed on Mexico carry consequences for both countries. They will have extremely serious consequences for the US economy because the value of all goods exported from Mexico to the US will increase significantly," Sheinbaum said in a video address posted on her X page.
"They are just shooting themselves in the foot," the Mexican leader added. She also pointed out that the imposed tariffs will cause significant damage to Mexico. According to her, many businesses operating in the Mexican market will be forced to decide whether to leave or stay. "But the US doesn't even have enough workforce. Everything is more expensive there, and they don't even have energy," Sheinbaum stressed.
She added that she was waiting for a response from US President Donald Trump regarding her proposal to set up a working group between the two countries to address the US authorities' claims against Mexico and find a negotiated solution.
