Mexican radio highlights importance of COP29 climate conference

During an interview with Mexico's prominent Canon radio, which boasts a vast listener base, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Mexico, Mammad Talibov, highlighted the achievements of Azerbaijan's COP29 Presidency, Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Mexico told SİA.

The ambassador emphasized Azerbaijan's commitment to a comprehensive and supportive approach to solving ecological problems. He stressed that the primary goal of Azerbaijan's COP29 Presidency is to promote global solidarity in the fight against climate change.

The diplomat noted that positive results had already been achieved on the first day of the conference regarding Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement. This development will enable the creation of effective mechanisms that yield significant results in combating climate change.

Talibov also mentioned the signing of several important agreements and collaborations within the framework of COP29 in Baku, including the "Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the Development and Transmission of Green Energy between the Governments of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan." He added that this marks a new stage in the cooperation among the three countries.

Ambassador Talibov highlighted that for the first time in the history of COP, Baku hosted a summit of small island developing states (SIDS) within the framework of COP29.

The ambassador emphasized the importance of ensuring that the voices of these developing small island nations are heard on the global stage, learning from their experiences, and seeking inclusive solutions to global problems like climate change, which affect these countries the most.

In conclusion, the ambassador expressed concern about the ongoing manifestations of neocolonialism in international politics, which hinder small island states from making their own decisions in the fight against climate change.

The interview was also broadcast on Mexico's Miled and ADRNetwork radio channels.
