France persists in its occupation policy, violating international law, said Thabit Ahmed, official of the Comoros Union, Report informs.
Speaking at a conference titled "Illegal French Occupation of Mayotte Island of Comoros Union" organized by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), Ahmed addressed France's colonial history in the Comoros Islands.
The official emphasized that France seeks to maintain its colonial policy in the Comoros Islands today.
"France has attempted a coup d'état on our territory. The French representation in Mayotte poses a threat to territorial integrity. France illegally continues its colonial policy in the region," he stated.
Ahmed highlighted that the presence of gas and other natural resources on the island has intensified France's interest and led to increased political interference.
"Despite all international resolutions, France disrespects the decisions of the UN Security Council. The French government is trying to legitimize its colonial policy," he added.
