Austria Intends Neither NATO Membership Nor Abandoning Alliance Partnership, Says Foreign Minister

Austria's Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg clarified on ORF radio that while Austria does not plan to join NATO, it remains committed to maintaining its partnership with the alliance, SIA reports with reference to foreign media.

"We are a militarily neutral state and have no plans to become a NATO member," the minister asserted. He further highlighted that Austria has been participating in NATO's Partnership for Peace program since 1995 and intends to sustain this cooperative relationship.

Alexander Schallenberg, despite receiving an invitation to NATO's summit in Washington from July 9-11, did not attend the event due to the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Vienna.
