Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić Affirms Serbia's Intent to Join the European Union Instead of BRICS

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has stated that Serbia will not join the BRICS bloc, which includes its "brother" Russia. This decision stems from the country's intention to join the European Union, SIA reports citing "The Moscow Times".

"I hold great respect for BRICS, but Serbia is on the path to Europe and will remain on that path," Vučić stated.

He noted that despite efforts by some to steer Serbia away from the European path, he remains steadfast, particularly in order to not "antagonize them."

Vučić emphasized that whether Serbia joins the European Union in one, two, or three years depends not on them but on the EU, highlighting that the timing "is not up to us, but to them," the republic's leader emphasized.

Belgrade applied for EU membership in 2009. Since 2012, Serbia has held the official candidate status for EU membership.
