Belgium's Brussels capital region signs cooperation agreement with Palestinian cities of Ramallah and Bireh

An agreement on cooperation in the development sector has been signed between the Brussels Capital Region of Belgium and the Palestinian cities of Ramallah and Bireh.

The agreement was signed by Rudi Vervoort, the Prime Minister of the Brussels Capital Region, and Laila Qannam, the Governor of Ramallah and Bireh, SIA reports with reference to foreign media.

Due to ongoing attacks in the Gaza Strip by Israel, preventing her from traveling to Brussels, Qannam participated in the signing ceremony via video conference.

The agreement aims to promote cooperation between the Brussels Capital Region and the cities of Ramallah and Bireh in various areas, including local development, entrepreneurship, preservation of historical heritage, social rights, and combating discrimination.

Under the agreement, work will be carried out in the economic, social, healthcare, and scientific development sectors to benefit approximately 400,000 people residing in Ramallah and Bireh.

In December 2022, the Brussels Capital Region prioritized the occupied Palestinian territories as a "priority region for cooperation in the development sector."
