Russia-NATO Currently in Direct Confrontation - Kremlin Spokesman

Russia and NATO are currently in direct confrontation. NATO is already involved in the conflict in Ukraine, moving towards our borders, and seeking to expand its military infrastructure in close proximity to us.

The Press Secretary for the Russian President's Office, Dmitry Peskov declared in a recent statement, SIA reports.

Russian President Vladimir Putin previously accused the West of deceiving Russia after the "Cold War," despite the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact, asserting that NATO continues to expand and encroach former Soviet countries within its sphere of influence. The West, however, denies these accusations, stating that NATO is a defensive alliance and joining it is the democratic choice of countries.

NATO has supported Ukraine in resisting Russia's occupation, providing official assistance to Kyiv in terms of weapons, training, and intelligence, as stated by Ukrainian officials.

According to Russia, however, this effectively turns NATO into a party to the conflict. In February 2024, President Putin warned, "If there is direct confrontation between Russia and NATO, the Earth will be at the brink of World War III."
