Russia detains Tajikistan citizen with Russian passport for evading military service
Russia has detained a Tajikistan citizen who possesses a Russian passport, as announced by the Russian Investigative Committee, SIA reports citing Moskovski Komsomolets .
This action was taken because the individual had been released from service in the Russian Armed Forces.
The situation unfolded after two Tajikistan residents accepted Russian citizenship in 2019 and 2022. However, they were later called upon for compulsory military service.
Refusing to comply, the Tajiks believed this went against their will and attempted to evade military duty.
Consequently, a criminal case was initiated against them in October 2023, leading to formal charges and subsequent arrests.
Investigators traced the whereabouts of these individuals to Belarus. While one was apprehended recently, the other remains at large. During interrogation, the detained individual confessed to his involvement in the crime. Efforts to locate the second individual are ongoing.
