The press secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, has stated that the United States is planning to restore military positions in the Arctic, thereby creating a tense situation, SIA reports citing Kommersant.
Peskov emphasized the strategic importance of the Arctic for the Russian Federation economically. He stated that the region is a competitive area, and the actions of the United States are not new challenges for Russia.
Earlier, it was reported that the US government was concerned about the actions of Russia and China, and had begun to pay more attention to the Arctic. Among other things, military experts conducted exercises in harsh Arctic conditions, crossing from Alaska a day earlier in preparation for potential confrontations.
