Farid Shafiyev condemns desecration of Natavan’s monument in France as anti-Azerbaijan policy

The act vandalism commited against the monument of Khurshidbanu Natavan in France is a direct consequence of anti-Azerbaijani sentiment, Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Center for the Analysis of International Relations (ICRA), said during the international conference themed “Embracing Diversity: Tackling Islamophobia in 2024” held in Baku.

He highlighted Natavan’s legacy as a benefactor and poet, emphasizing that the desecration of her monument in France cannot be overlooked.

The lack of responsive measures from France was noted by the Azerbaijani government, leading to the relocation of the monument to Azerbaijani embassy grounds. Shafiyev pointed out that the French government’s policies are reflected in this act of vandalism, lamenting the absence of an official apology and describing the incident as deeply regrettable. He urged that this should serve as a call to action for collective response.
